In a recent post on his Truth Social account, US President Donald Trump shared a video apparently created with generative AI. The video promotes the transformation of Gaza into a luxury resort akin to a Gulf state. The proposed resort features extravagant elements like a golden statue of Trump himself, a hummus-eating Elon Musk, and shirtless American and Israeli leaders relaxing on a beach.
The video is accompanied by a catchy tune with lyrics stating, “No more tunnels, no more fear. Trump Gaza is finally here!” This vision includes expelling 2.1 million Palestinians from Gaza and converting the enclave into a “Riviera” owned by the United States. The West Bank-based Palestinian Authority has strongly opposed this proposal, labeling it a “serious violation of international law.”
Varsen Aghabekian Shaheen, the PA foreign minister, emphasized, “We have tried displacement before, and it will not happen again,” referencing the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians during the Arab-Israeli war that resulted in the creation of Israel in 1948.
The video opens with barefoot Palestinian children navigating through Gazan rubble, followed by the question, “What’s next?” The imagery transitions to a skyline of skyscrapers along Gaza’s coast, as a voice sings, “Donald’s coming to set you free. Trump Gaza shining bright. Golden future, a brand-new light. Feast and dance. The deed is done.”
In a bizarre mix of visuals, the video features bearded and bikini-clad belly dancers, a child with a golden balloon shaped like Trump’s head, and Elon Musk dancing on a beach amidst a shower of US dollars. As the video concludes, the tune declares, “Trump Gaza, number one!” while the camera zooms in on Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu enjoying drinks on a beach.
The proposal to transform Gaza has received strong opposition from leaders in Egypt and Jordan. In response, Trump told Fox News, “The way to do it is my plan. I think that’s the plan that really works. But I’m not forcing it. I’m just going to sit back and recommend it.”
CNN has reached out to the Palestinian Authority and Hamas for comments on the video, and is also seeking clarification from the White House regarding Trump's intentions.
