The violence began on Friday evening, shortly after 10:30 p.m., when police responded to a report of a shooting in the 7400 block of South Eberhart Avenue. A 43-year-old man was arguing with an unidentified individual, who then pulled a gun and fired multiple shots, hitting the victim in the left shin. Fortunately, he was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center and is reported to be in good condition.
Just before midnight, another incident occurred in the 7700 block of South Essex Avenue. Inside an apartment building, a 25-year-old woman was killed, and a 23-year-old woman was injured. The violence continued into Saturday, starting at 12:42 a.m. in the 200 block of West 112th Street, where a 27-year-old man was shot in the left thigh by an assailant who approached him on foot. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he is in good condition.
At 1:03 a.m., in the 4400 block of West Fifth Avenue, a couple aged 35 was standing outside when they heard gunfire. The man was hit in the right ankle, while the woman sustained multiple gunshot wounds to both legs and is in serious condition.
In another incident at 1:22 a.m., a 17-year-old boy was shot multiple times in the body in the 1400 block of South Trumbull Avenue. He was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital and is currently in good condition. By 11:01 a.m., a 29-year-old man was shot multiple times in the body and later died at the hospital, marking another tragic loss.
As the day progressed, further shootings occurred, including a mass shooting at 11:10 p.m., where seven individuals were shot in the 3500 block of South State Street. Fortunately, all victims were reported to be in good condition.
Sunday continued the trend of violence, with multiple shootings reported throughout the day. Between midnight and 12:20 a.m., a 41-year-old man suffered a graze wound to the leg. The day saw escalating violence, including a shooting that left a 33-year-old man dead in a domestic dispute and several others injured in various incidents.
The violence persisted into Monday, with a total of five people shot during a disturbance in the 3600 block of South Cottage Grove. One victim, a 17-year-old boy, was reported to be in critical condition. This alarming trend of gun violence demonstrates the urgency for community engagement and effective interventions.
