On Monday, Delta passengers were compelled to evacuate via emergency slides at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport after a haze or smoke was detected inside the plane. This incident was confirmed by both the airline and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The incident involved Delta Flight 876, which was scheduled to travel from Atlanta to Columbia, South Carolina on Monday morning. A spokesperson for Delta reported that a haze was noticed inside the cabin. Meanwhile, the FAA noted that the crew had reported potential smoke on the flightdeck.
The Boeing 717 aircraft, carrying 94 passengers, two pilots, and three flight attendants, safely returned to Atlanta and landed without incident, as stated by both Delta and the FAA. Upon landing, Atlanta Fire Rescue assisted passengers in deplaning to ensure their safety.
According to the airport, there is a moderate impact on operations as a result of this incident. The safety of passengers and crew is of utmost importance to Delta, and the airline has expressed its apologies to the affected customers for the inconvenience experienced.
The Federal Aviation Administration has announced that it will conduct a thorough investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the haze or smoke.
