A body has been discovered amid the ongoing search for Camila Mendoza Olmos, a 19-year-old who went missing shortly after leaving her home in San Antonio on the morning of December 24. The Bexar County Sheriff's Office announced the grim find on Tuesday, stating that the body has yet to be identified and that the official cause of death has not been determined.
According to Sheriff Javier Salazar, the body was found wearing clothing that closely resembles what Mendoza Olmos was last seen wearing. "We hope that we can expedite that process to try to get the community answers," Salazar stated, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
The discovery occurred around 4:45 p.m. local time in a field located approximately 100 yards from Mendoza Olmos' residence. This area had been checked previously; however, it was searched again due to concerns regarding tall grass, which might have obscured the view. The search was conducted by combined efforts from the sheriff's office and the FBI.
At this time, foul play is not suspected in the case. Sheriff Salazar mentioned that there were indications of self-harm, noting that Mendoza Olmos had been experiencing a difficult time before her disappearance. Additionally, a firearm was located near the body, and investigators are also searching for a family member's firearm that had previously gone missing.
Mendoza Olmos was last seen on Christmas Eve morning, with a neighbor's doorbell camera capturing footage of her standing next to her car shortly before 7 a.m., as reported by the Bexar County Sheriff's Office. The circumstances surrounding her disappearance have raised significant concern within the community.
