A devastating incident unfolded on Friday when a farmworker tragically died due to injuries sustained during immigration raids at two cannabis farm sites in California. The United Farm Workers advocacy group confirmed the death of Jaime Alanis in a heartfelt social media post, stating, “We tragically can confirm that a farm worker has died of injuries they sustained as a result of yesterday’s immigration enforcement action.”
The raids took place in Carpinteria and Camarillo, California, as part of a larger operation executed by the Department of Homeland Security. Officials reported the arrest of 200 workers, many of whom were suspected of being in the country illegally. The operation, which began on Thursday, involved the execution of criminal search warrants and included the presence of at least 10 immigrant children at the sites.
In addition to the arrests, four U.S. citizens were taken into custody for “assaulting or resisting officers.” Authorities are currently offering a substantial $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of an individual accused of firing a weapon at federal agents during the standoff.

Glass House Farms, a licensed cannabis grower in California, stated that immigration agents had valid warrants and assured that they are providing legal representation for detained workers. “Glass House has never knowingly violated applicable hiring practices and does not and has never employed minors,” the company emphasized.
