Reno Shooting Incident: Two Lives Lost and Several Injured
On Monday morning, a tragic shooting at the Grand Sierra Resort casino in Reno resulted in the loss of two lives and left several others injured. According to local authorities, the situation unfolded early in the day, prompting an immediate response from the Reno Police Department.
Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve confirmed the fatalities and reported that at least four individuals are currently in critical condition. In her statement to the Reno Gazette-Journal, she expressed the gravity of the situation, noting, “It could have been much, much worse.” As of now, the exact details surrounding the motive and the individuals involved in the shooting remain unclear.
Reno police officers received a report of an active shooter at approximately 7:25 a.m. and responded swiftly. Within minutes of their arrival, officers engaged the suspect, resulting in the suspect being shot and wounded. She noted that the majority of the shooting occurred outside the casino, particularly near the valet area, although the scene extended to the north side of the property.
In the wake of this tragic event, Reno Councilmember Devon Reese spoke out, calling it another act of senseless gun violence. In a heartfelt social media post, he shared, “Tragically, lives were lost this morning in Reno during another act of senseless gun violence. My heart breaks for the victims, their families, and our community. Reno is strong — but we are not immune to the gun violence sweeping our nation. We cannot accept this as normal. Not here. Not anywhere.”
