In his announcement, Director Patel stated, “This morning the FBI thwarted a potential terrorist attack and arrested multiple subjects in Michigan who were allegedly plotting a violent attack over Halloween weekend.” He praised the efforts of the FBI and law enforcement, emphasizing their role in defending the homeland. However, specifics regarding the exact location of the operation within Michigan remain undisclosed.
In a related social media post, the Dearborn Police Department confirmed that FBI agents had been active in their community earlier that morning. While it is unclear if this activity is linked to the thwarted attack, the police reassured residents that there is currently no threat to public safety. "The Dearborn Police Department has been made aware that the FBI conducted operations in the city of Dearborn earlier this morning,” they stated.
Dearborn, located in southeast Michigan near Detroit, is notable for being the headquarters of the Ford Motor Company and is recognized as the first city in the United States with an Arab American majority. In addition to operations in Dearborn, reports from the Detroit Free Press indicate that FBI activities also occurred in Inkster, another suburb of Detroit.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer acknowledged the situation in a public statement, expressing gratitude for the swift actions taken by the FBI and the Michigan State Police (MSP) to protect residents. She noted, “This morning, I was briefed by Director Patel on the thwarted potential terrorist attack in our state. This incident is not the first time the FBI, under Director Patel’s leadership, has reported thwarting a terrorist-related incident in Michigan. In May 2023, the FBI arrested Ammar Abdulmajid-Mohamed Said, a 19-year-old former member of the Michigan National Guard, who was allegedly planning a mass shooting at a U.S. army base in Warren, Michigan. Said had reportedly communicated with undercover agents about his intentions to support the terrorist group ISIL (ISIS).
