Donald Trump recently shared an AI-generated video on his Truth Social platform, stirring controversy with his proposed plans to take over and redevelop Gaza. The video, which Trump posted without a caption, opens with an image of the war-torn region, accompanied by the on-screen caption “Gaza 2025… What’s Next?”
The video proceeds to depict a dramatically transformed Gaza, featuring beaches, skyscrapers, and gold Trump statues. Adding to the surreal imagery are AI-generated versions of Elon Musk and Trump himself, lounging on a beach with a topless Benjamin Netanyahu. A catchy jingle plays in the background, with lyrics that boast: “Donald’s coming to set you free, bringing the light for all to see, no more tunnels, no more fear. Trump Gaza’s finally here. Trump Gaza’s shining bright, golden future, a brand new life. Feast and dance the deal is done, Trump Gaza number one.”
Earlier this month, Donald Trump announced his intentions to “take over” the Gaza Strip during a White House press conference alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Trump stated, “The U.S. will take over the Gaza Strip, and we will do a job with it too. We’ll own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site. Level the site and get rid of the destroyed buildings. Level it out, create an economic development that will supply unlimited numbers of jobs and housing for the people of the area.”
Wassel Abu Yousuf, a member of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO)’s executive committee, criticized Trump’s AI video as “a clowning gimmick and nothing more than that.” He stated, “There will not be resorts or Middle East riviera or anything else. What Trump wants to do should be done somewhere else, but not on the backs of the Palestinian people. This is the land of our ancestors and parents, and a lot of blood has been shed to defend it.”
Trump's vague statements about taking over Gaza have faced significant criticism from neighboring Arab nations. Leaders from Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, the UAE, Kuwait, and Bahrain convened in Saudi Arabia, led by Mohammed Bin Salman, to discuss alternative plans aimed at preventing further displacement of Palestinians.
In response to the backlash, Trump told Fox News, “The way to do it is my plan. I think that’s the plan that really works. But I’m not forcing it. I’m just going to sit back and recommend it.” The future of his proposed Gaza redevelopment remains uncertain as international leaders scrutinize the potential impact on the region.
