In a shocking incident early Monday morning, multiple people were shot at a casino in Reno, Nevada. Local authorities have since taken a suspect into custody following the event, which has left the community in disbelief.
According to a report from the local news outlet KRNV, Reno police responded promptly to a report of an active shooter at the Grand Sierra Resort around 7:25 AM. Within four to five minutes of receiving the call, officers located the suspect. Following the incident, the suspect was transported to a hospital after what has been described as an officer-involved shooting.
The term “active shooter” is commonly used in the United States to describe an individual who is firing at multiple victims indiscriminately. In this case, the term applies as the shooting occurred outside the resort near the valet area and may have spread to other sections of the property, as reported by the Reno Gazette citing law enforcement officials.
At this time, officials have not disclosed the total number of victims involved in the shooting at the casino, nor have they confirmed if there were any fatalities. However, on social media, Reno City Council member Devon Reese commented that “tragically, lives have been lost” at the resort. He extended his heartfelt condolences to “the victims, their families, and our entire community.”
Information regarding the extent of the suspect's injuries has not been made public as of yet, and local authorities continue to investigate the situation. This remains a developing story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
