Apple has not yet released the highly anticipated M5 MacBook Pro, but exciting rumors are already circulating about the upcoming M6 MacBook Pro. This new model is expected to debut next year, featuring a total redesign that promises to make it thinner and lighter than its predecessors. Notably, the redesigned MacBook Pro will also include an OLED display, a significant upgrade for the series.
According to recent reports, Apple is set to introduce two distinct new MacBook Pro models next year. The first, the M5 MacBook Pro, will likely maintain the current hardware design while offering a modest spec bump. Following this, the M6 MacBook Pro is rumored to bring several groundbreaking features:
A total redesign that is thinner and lighter An OLED display without a notch cutout Possibly incorporating 5G cellular and touchscreen supportEven if only the first two features materialize, this will mark a significant upgrade for a product line that has not seen a redesign since 2021. A recent report from TheElec, based on supply chain leaks, has provided a fresh timeline for these developments.
According to Gijong Lee from TheElec, Samsung Display is set to commence production of OLED panels specifically designed for Apple’s MacBook Pros next year. The introduction of these OLED panels will be a first for the MacBook series, with expected launch dates falling in the fourth quarter of the next year.
Sources indicate that Samsung Display will begin manufacturing by late Q2 2026, targeting production of both 14-inch and 16-inch OLED panels. The planned production volume ranges between 2 million and 3 million units, with prototypes being manufactured later this year at Samsung's Gen 8 OLED factory A6.
This report reinforces earlier claims about the introduction of OLED displays in the 14-inch and 16-inch variants of the MacBook Pro. Additionally, it suggests that Apple may be aiming for an early fourth-quarter launch for the new model. If Samsung begins display production in the second quarter (around May or June), a launch in October seems plausible.
For context, last year's M4 MacBook Pro was revealed at the end of October but did not ship until November. Meanwhile, the launch of the M5 MacBook Pro was initially expected this fall, but indications now suggest an early 2026 release instead.
As we approach the unveiling of the redesigned MacBook Pro next fall, we can expect a flurry of leaks and rumors to emerge. We will keep you updated on all the latest developments regarding the M6 MacBook Pro and its features.
