This announcement marks the first time Trump has publicly addressed the reasons behind his second medical examination of the year, raising further questions about his overall health status.
During his conversation with reporters, Trump stated, “I did. I got an MRI. It was perfect.” He elaborated, “I gave you the full results. We had an MRI, and the machine, you know, the whole thing, and it was perfect.” This assertive claim about the results comes as Trump, at the age of 79, stands as one of the oldest presidents in U.S. history.
Despite his affirmative remarks about the MRI results, Trump did not disclose the specific reasons for receiving the MRI during his recent visit to Walter Reed. When pressed by reporters, he suggested they “ask the doctors” for more information. He mentioned that his medical team provided a “very conclusive” report regarding the exam; however, the White House has yet to explain the rationale behind this unusual second visit, which deviates from the traditional presidential practice of conducting a single comprehensive exam annually.
Previously this summer, the White House announced that Trump had been examined for swelling in his legs and was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency. This medical condition affects the veins' valves, leading to improper blood flow and potential pooling in the veins. Each year, approximately 150,000 individuals are diagnosed with this condition, and the risk increases with age. Common symptoms include swelling in the lower legs or ankles, leg cramping or aching, varicose veins, and changes in skin texture.
Treatment for chronic venous insufficiency may include medication or, in advanced cases, medical procedures. Furthermore, Trump has faced ongoing scrutiny regarding persistent bruising on his right hand, which he has been observed covering with heavy makeup. The White House physician, Dr. Sean Barbabella, has attributed this bruising to a combination of “frequent handshaking” and the use of aspirin, known to increase bruising susceptibility.
