A man is currently facing a felony federal assault charge after allegedly throwing a Subway sandwich at a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent in Washington, D.C. This unusual incident has garnered significant attention, especially since the man involved was an employee at the Department of Justice (DOJ), as confirmed by Attorney General Pam Bondi on Thursday.
The individual accused of this bizarre act is identified in court documents as Sean Charles Dunn. Following the incident, Attorney General Bondi stated that Dunn has been terminated from his position. He was employed in the DOJ's criminal division, specifically within the international affairs section.
Bondi expressed her disapproval in a post on X, stating, “I just learned that this defendant worked at the Department of Justice — NO LONGER.” She emphasized the ongoing efforts to refocus the DOJ, claiming that Dunn's actions exemplify the challenges they face in addressing what she termed the “Deep State.” She strongly noted, “You will NOT work in this administration while disrespecting our government and law enforcement.”
The incident took place on a Sunday night in Washington's Northwest area, where video footage captured the events leading up to the assault. In the 32-second clip, Dunn, dressed in a pink polo shirt and light shorts, is seen engaged in conversation with a small group of agents while clutching a wrapped Subway sandwich. In a sudden outburst, he hurls the sandwich at the nearest officer's chest before fleeing the scene, with at least three officers in pursuit. This footage was shared by FBI Director Kash Patel.
Dunn was arrested on Wednesday night, as reported by Patel. A statement of facts provided by a police detective indicates that Dunn was apprehended after attempting to escape the scene of the incident. During processing by the Metropolitan Police Department, Dunn reportedly admitted, “I did it. I threw a sandwich,” acknowledging his actions during the confrontation.
This case highlights the intersection of law enforcement and public behavior, underlining the serious consequences that can arise from seemingly trivial actions. With Dunn's termination from the DOJ and his pending charges, this incident serves as a reminder of the accountability expected from those employed in government positions.
