A fourth inmate from a group of ten who escaped from New Orleans' main jail on Friday has been successfully captured, according to a statement released by the Louisiana State Police on Monday. The captured individual, Gary C. Price, 21, was located in New Orleans. He was facing serious charges, including first-degree murder, and was being held without bond as he awaited upcoming court proceedings, as indicated in court documents.
Following his capture, Gary C. Price will be transferred to a secure state facility located outside of the area, as confirmed by state police on Monday. As of Monday evening, six other inmates from the group remain at large. Authorities are actively searching for these escapees and are optimistic about making further arrests soon.
In a statement made on Sunday, officials expressed confidence that the remaining escapees would be captured and returned to custody swiftly. Over 200 law enforcement personnel are currently involved in the search operations for the fugitives. To incentivize information leading to the capture of each inmate, authorities have increased the reward to $20,000.
State Police Superintendent, Col. Robert Hodges, emphasized during a news conference on Sunday night that there is credible intelligence regarding the whereabouts of the remaining fugitives. The escape occurred shortly after midnight on Friday when the ten inmates utilized a rectangular hole created behind a bathroom fixture in their cell to facilitate their escape from the Orleans Parish Justice Center.
Orleans Parish Sheriff, Susan Hutson, has raised concerns that personnel within the department may have played a role in the escape. As a precaution, three employees have been placed on leave without pay while an investigation is underway. The state attorney general is also probing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
As the situation unfolds, law enforcement continues to prioritize the capture of the remaining inmates and ensure the safety of the community. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
