In a significant announcement on social media platform X, Angela Paxton revealed that she has filed for divorce after 38 years of marriage. She emphasized her belief that marriage is a sacred covenant and expressed her commitment to seeking reconciliation. However, she stated that recent discoveries led her to conclude that remaining in the marriage would not honor God or be loving toward herself, her children, or her husband, Ken Paxton.
In response, Ken Paxton suggested that their divorce was influenced by political attacks and public scrutiny. He shared his thoughts on X, stating, “After facing the pressures of countless political attacks and public scrutiny, Angela and I have decided to start a new chapter in our lives.” He expressed pride in his family, stating, “I could not be any more proud or grateful for the incredible family that God has blessed us with,” and requested prayers and privacy during this challenging time.
Ken Paxton has faced several controversies, including impeachment by the Republican-controlled Texas state House in 2023, although he was acquitted by the state Senate. His impeachment trial centered around allegations of an extramarital affair and bribery accusations. Additionally, Paxton was indicted in 2015 on charges of state securities fraud but reached a deal with prosecutors last year that resulted in the charges being dropped.
Despite his turbulent past, early polls indicate that Ken Paxton is leading in the primary race against John Cornyn, who has served in the Senate for over 22 years. Cornyn, when approached by reporters on Capitol Hill, expressed sympathy for Angela Paxton, referring to the divorce as a private matter. He stated, “There’s plenty of other reasons that I could comment on in terms of character, but I’ll probably just leave that alone.”
As a prominent ally of former President Donald Trump, Ken Paxton has leveraged his position to further Trump’s political agenda and has actively resisted actions taken by President Joe Biden. Notably, after the 2020 election, Paxton spearheaded an effort to challenge the election results in four battleground states, a case that was ultimately dismissed by the Supreme Court.
The Cornyn campaign has refrained from commenting on the divorce. However, the National Republican Senatorial Committee, endorsing Cornyn in the primary, criticized Paxton for the turmoil he has caused his family. NRSC spokesperson Joanna Rodriguez stated on X, “What Ken Paxton has put his family through is truly repulsive and disgusting. No one should have to endure what Angela Paxton has, and we pray for her as she chooses to stand up for herself and her family during this difficult time.”
