A few weeks after Coyote vs. Acme was officially saved by Ketchup Entertainment, star Will Forte is still in shock over the film’s unexpected turn of events. This highly anticipated Looney Tunes film, which features Forte alongside John Cena in a story that pits them against the animated icon Wile E. Coyote, became the most talked-about movie in Hollywood in late 2023. The buzz intensified when The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Warner Bros. planned to scrap the movie as part of a massive $115 million writedown.
Initially, it seemed Coyote vs. Acme would never see the light of day. However, a passionate social media campaign emerged, rallying fans to save the project. This grassroots effort played a significant role in leading to an acquisition deal between Ketchup Entertainment and Warner Bros. for the worldwide rights to the film. As a result, the movie is now slated for a theatrical release, much to the delight of its supporters.
During the Los Angeles premiere of his new show, The Four Seasons, Forte expressed his astonishment at the film’s revival. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, he stated, “Words cannot describe how I’m feeling about the movie’s changed fate. I never thought it would happen, so it just came out of nowhere, and I’m so thrilled.” He also extended his gratitude to Ketchup Entertainment, saying, “I’m so excited for people to see this movie. I’m gonna promote the crap out of it; just tell me what you want me to do, and I’ll go. I’ll do whatever — go to the top of Mount Everest, I’m there.”
Forte has been vocal about his frustration regarding the film's previous shelving. Earlier this year, he shared his thoughts with MovieWeb, expressing disappointment over the decision not to release the film. “My thoughts were that it’s a fucking bullshit,” he remarked, adding, “It is such a delightful movie. It deserves so much better … I can’t tell you possibly why the decision was made to not release it, but it makes my blood boil.”
The film, directed by Dave Green and produced by Chris deFaria and James Gunn, does not yet have an official release date. However, with the excitement surrounding its revival, fans are eagerly anticipating its debut.
