In a thrilling addition to the popular universe of Warframe, Digital Extremes is set to unveil Uriel, a devil-themed character, marking the completion of the Warframe roster with a character for every letter of the alphabet. Uriel will be featured in the upcoming year-end update titled The Old Peace, which promises to deliver an engaging side story for players to explore.
Unveiled during the much-anticipated TennoCon, Digital Extremes’ annual fan event, Uriel is designed as a hulking figure adorned in black armor that seems to crack open, revealing flames akin to hellfire underneath. This visually striking character also boasts a long, pointy tail, which is sure to spark various reactions within the gaming community.
Alongside Uriel, players can expect the introduction of two new Protoframes: Harrow and Wisp. These characters represent human versions of existing Warframes, adding a unique twist to the gameplay experience. Originally appearing in the 1999 expansion, Protoframes have long been anticipated by fans, and Harrow’s Protoframe is known as Father Lyon Allard, while Wisp’s is Marie Leroux.
Harrow, a priestlike Warframe, is infamous for his early-game quest where he terrorizes players. He wields an incense burner known as a thurible, using it to self-flagellate and enhance his reload and fire rate. His Protoframe form features midriff-baring leathery armor, enhancing his gothic aesthetic.
In contrast, Wisp embodies an ethereal, floating enchantress with designs inspired by the folklore of will-o’-wisps. These mythical entities are known to lead unsuspecting travelers to their demise in bogs and swamps. Marie Leroux, Wisp’s Protoframe, is depicted as a beautiful nun-like figure, complete with striking yellow eyes, making her an intriguing addition to the community.
Together, Uriel, Harrow, and Wisp form what creative director Rebecca Ford refers to as “the Devil’s Triad.” While specifics about the storyline remain under wraps, Ford hinted that it will connect to the character of Albrecht Entrati and the complex themes of Orokin guilt. Players are eager for more details, which Digital Extremes is expected to reveal during its October devstream.
Uriel holds a special place in the hearts of the Warframe team, as it is the last character that the late developer Mike Brennan worked on before his passing in 2024. “There’s a lot of emotion tied into that frame,” Ford shared, emphasizing the significance of this character to both the development team and the player community.
As the gaming world awaits the October devstream, excitement grows for Uriel and the Devil’s Triad, promising fresh narratives and gameplay experiences that will further enrich the Warframe universe.
