The highly anticipated ninth installment in the “Resident Evil” video game franchise, titled “Resident Evil Requiem,” is officially set for release in February 2026. This thrilling announcement was made during the Summer Game Fest event held in Los Angeles, where a captivating trailer was unveiled, much to the surprise of fans. The reveal came after developer Capcom had previously hinted at the upcoming 30th anniversary of the “Resident Evil” franchise and teased a ninth game, although they did not provide any new footage or a release date at that time.
In a heartfelt video message, Capcom's game director, Jun Takeuchi, expressed gratitude to fans: “Thanks to all of you, ‘Resident Evil’ is about to celebrate its 30th anniversary this coming March. We truly appreciate your continued support.” He further stated, “Now, about the latest ‘Resident Evil’ game you’ve all been waiting for, bear with us a little longer, just a blink of an eye more, and it’ll be ready. We’re incredibly grateful for your ongoing support of the ‘Resident Evil’ series.”
Approximately 20 minutes after the initial announcements, the “Resident Evil Requiem” trailer and its release date were the final highlights of the SGF 2025 show. This latest addition to the survival horror genre will be available on major platforms including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and Steam, with the official launch date set for February 27, 2026.
The previous title in the series, “Resident Evil Village,” marked the eighth installment and was released in 2021. The original “Resident Evil” game was ingeniously crafted by Shinji Mikami and Tokuro Fujiwara for the PlayStation, making its debut back in 1996. Over the years, the franchise has not only produced numerous successful sequels but has also inspired adaptations across television and film.
