The Hrothgar and Viera communities in Final Fantasy 14 Online are set to receive much-anticipated updates regarding headgear options, as announced by the developers during a recent Letter from the Producer Live stream. Square Enix confirmed that with the upcoming Patch 7.3, players will finally be able to showcase the headgear their characters are wearing, a feature that has been long overdue for these unique races.
Since their introduction in the Shadowbringers expansion back in 2019, both Hrothgar and Viera players have faced limitations with headgear. The distinctive features of these races—Hrothgar with their cat ears and Viera with their bunny ears—have made it challenging for developers to create compatible cosmetic headgear. However, this is about to change, as Square Enix has promised that they will introduce additional headgear, including helmets, in future updates.
Alongside the headgear updates, players are hopeful that Square Enix will prioritize the release of paid cosmetic outfits that are currently unavailable for Hrothgar and Viera characters. This enhancement will allow players to fully express their style and embrace the aesthetic possibilities within the game.
While hats and headgear have taken the spotlight for Hrothgar and Viera, the FF14 producer/director Naoki Yoshida and global community producer Toshio Murouchi revealed much more during the Letter from the Producer. Patch 7.3, titled The Promise of Tomorrow, will feature a compelling main scenario quest that concludes the ongoing Dawntrail story arc, set to release in early August.
In addition to the long-awaited cosmetic updates, the developers teased a variety of new content that will enrich the gaming experience. Players can look forward to a new allied society scenario featuring the Yok Huy, a level 100 expert dungeon named The Meso Terminal, and an unnamed trial that will offer both normal and extreme difficulty versions. Moreover, a new 24-player alliance raid titled San d’Oria: The Second Walk, an Unreal trial against Seiryu in The Wreath of Snakes, and a new Deep Dungeon called Pilgrim’s Traverse are also on the horizon.
The announcement of enhanced headgear options is a significant milestone for Hrothgar and Viera players. After six years of limitations, this update signals a positive shift towards inclusivity and player satisfaction in Final Fantasy 14 Online. With the release of Patch 7.3 and the introduction of exciting new content, players have much to look forward to in the coming months. Final Fantasy 14 Online is currently available on multiple platforms, including Mac, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
