On Thursday, Cyberpunk 2077 will receive its highly anticipated Update 2.3, available for Mac, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. This update promises a host of new features designed to enhance gameplay, particularly focusing on vehicle mechanics and improved support for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) on consoles.
One of the standout additions in Update 2.3 is the new AutoDrive feature. This innovative capability allows players to navigate automatically from one location to another in all cars and motorcycles. Players can simply set their destination on the game’s map, including direct routes to quest objectives. However, it’s important to note that this feature is limited to road travel only.
Additionally, the AutoDrive feature includes a “wandering” mode, enabling players to let their vehicle explore the vibrant world of Night City autonomously. While using AutoDrive, gamers can activate a “cinematic camera” mode for a more immersive experience, showcasing stunning visuals and dynamic shots.
For those who prefer a more traditional method of transportation, Update 2.3 introduces an option for taxi rides provided by the Delamain AI. This service becomes available after completing a specific quest, offering players a convenient way to traverse the city without needing to drive themselves.
In addition to new features, CD Projekt Red (CDPR) is also incorporating official in-game support for VRR on both PS5 and Xbox consoles. This enhancement aims to reduce screen tearing during moments when the frame rate dips, providing a smoother gaming experience. While VRR was previously supported at the system level, CDPR's implementation is expected to significantly improve performance, particularly in performance mode.
For PC gamers, Update 2.3 brings support for AMD FSR 3.1, Intel XeSS 2.0, and HDR 10 Plus. Furthermore, while AMD’s FSR 4 will be included in the update, players will need to wait for a compatible driver to enable it in-game, which CDPR has stated will be available at a “later date.”
Excitingly, Cyberpunk 2077 will also officially launch on Mac this Thursday. However, players will need an Apple Silicon Mac with a minimum of 16GB of unified memory to run the game smoothly. Additionally, it’s worth noting that Cyberpunk 2077 was a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2, and the Update 2.3 will be rolled out for this platform at a later date.
With these updates and additions, Cyberpunk 2077 continues to evolve, promising players an even more immersive and engaging experience in the bustling world of Night City.
