A Wisconsin woman named Morgan Geyser, who gained notoriety for stabbing her friend over a dozen times in an attempt to impress the fictional character Slender Man, has been reported missing. The 23-year-old cut off her Department of Corrections monitoring bracelet and left a group home on Saturday night, prompting authorities to launch a search. According to the Madison Police Department, Geyser was last seen around 8 p.m. in a residential area of Madison, Wisconsin, accompanied by another adult.
The police were notified of Morgan Geyser's disappearance on Sunday morning and immediately alerted the public about her situation. As of Sunday evening, she remained missing. The police have urged anyone who sees her to call 911, emphasizing the urgency of the situation. At this time, the Madison Police Department has not responded to requests for further information regarding the case.
In a video shared on social media, Tony Cotton, the lawyer representing Geyser, expressed his uncertainty about the details surrounding her disappearance. He urged her to turn herself in, stating, “Do not continue to remain on the run like this. It is not in your best interest to handle this matter that way.” Cotton also warned that anyone assisting Geyser could face prosecution to the fullest extent of the law.
Morgan Geyser was placed in a group home in 2023 after being granted conditional release from the Winnebago Mental Health Institute. She had been sentenced to the psychiatric hospital in 2018 after pleading guilty to attempted first-degree intentional homicide. This plea deal included an agreement from prosecutors not to seek prison time. Over the years, Geyser had submitted multiple petitions for release from the psychiatric center, with her most recent request in October 2024. Waukesha County Circuit Court Judge Michael O. Bohren approved her release in January, concluding that she no longer posed a threat to herself or others.
In a shocking incident that occurred on May 31, 2014, Morgan Geyser and her classmate, Anissa Weier, lured their friend, Payton Leutner, into a wooded area in Waukesha, Wisconsin. All three girls were just 12 years old at the time. Geyser stabbed Leutner 19 times with a kitchen knife, while Weier watched and encouraged her actions. Despite her severe injuries, Leutner managed to crawl out of the woods, where she was discovered by a cyclist and subsequently survived after months of recovery.
Anissa Weier pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree homicide in 2017. A jury later determined that she was suffering from a mental disorder during the stabbing incident, leading to her commitment to the Winnebago Mental Health Institute for 25 years. She was granted conditional release in July 2021.
Both Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier were reportedly on their way to a mansion they believed belonged to Slender Man, a popular internet character depicted as a tall figure in a suit with a blank face. The girls later confessed that their motive for the stabbing was to appease this fictional character.
The ongoing search for Geyser highlights the complexities surrounding her case and underscores the need for community awareness and safety. Authorities continue to seek public assistance in locating her.
