According to Chief of Police Lisa Davis, the attacker is described as a man in his 30s who has a documented mental health history. Following the shooting, he fled the scene in a stolen car, which he later crashed. In a desperate attempt to evade capture, the suspect then stole another vehicle from a nearby dealership before being apprehended by law enforcement.
Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene and discovered the three victims, whose identities have not yet been released. Two individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, while the third succumbed to injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital. Chief Davis expressed her condolences, stating, “This is a very sad day for Austin. It’s a very sad day for us all, and my condolences go out to the families.”

Just over two weeks prior, a man had stabbed 11 people at a Walmart in Traverse City, Michigan, on July 26. That suspect has since faced charges, including terrorism and multiple counts of attempted murder. Additionally, in late July, a 27-year-old man carried out a shooting in Midtown Manhattan that resulted in five fatalities, marking the deadliest incident in the city in over two decades.
