While a second man was detained at the scene, he was later released after it was determined that he was not involved in the incident.
Superintendent Loveless also emphasized that, at this stage of the investigation, there is no indication that this incident is related to terrorism. He cautioned against speculating on the motives behind the attack, stating, "At this early stage, it would not be appropriate to speculate on the causes of the incident."
Following the attack, a total of 11 victims received treatment at local hospitals for injuries sustained during the stabbing. As of Sunday morning, two of these individuals remained in critical condition, highlighting the severity of the injuries sustained during this alarming event.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed his concern regarding the incident, calling it an "appalling" attack that has raised serious alarm within the community. The incident has prompted discussions about safety and security on public transport, as authorities continue their investigation.
