The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is Qualcomm's most advanced smartphone System on Chip (SoC) to date, designed to deliver unparalleled performance and efficiency. As the successor to the Snapdragon 8 Elite, this powerful chip is now featured in the new Xiaomi 17 series, significantly enhancing the capabilities of smartphones such as the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max.
In a recent series of gaming tests, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max was pitted against the A19 Pro-powered iPhone 17 Pro Max. One of the first games tested was Wuthering Waves. In this matchup, the Xiaomi device achieved an impressive average frame rate of 59.1 FPS, while the iPhone managed slightly less at 57.8 FPS.
Notably, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max performed this feat while consuming an average power of just 4.83 W, compared to the iPhone 17 Pro Max's 5.89 W. It's essential to highlight that the Xiaomi phone was operating at a slightly higher resolution, making its performance even more impressive.
Continuing the performance analysis, the devices were tested on Honkai Impact 3rd. At identical resolutions, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max maintained an average frame rate of 59.6 FPS, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max averaged 58.8 FPS. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset in the Xiaomi device once again demonstrated its efficiency, drawing only 5.30 W of power compared to the iPhone's 5.52 W.
In addition to its superior gaming performance, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max also outperformed the iPhone in thermal management during these tests. In the first test, the Xiaomi phone reached a maximum temperature of just 39.0°C, whereas the iPhone climbed to 43.3°C. In the second test, the temperatures were 40.5°C for the Xiaomi and 42.7°C for the iPhone, again demonstrating the Xiaomi flagship's ability to run cooler under load.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is proving to be a game-changer in the smartphone industry, particularly for the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. With its superior gaming performance, lower power consumption, and better thermal management compared to the iPhone 17 Pro Max, it is clear that Qualcomm's latest chip is setting a new standard for smartphone capabilities. As mobile gaming continues to grow in popularity, the advantages of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 will undoubtedly make the Xiaomi 17 series a top choice for gamers and tech enthusiasts alike.
