WiiM, a company renowned for its innovative music streaming devices, has recently announced its entry into the speaker market with the introduction of three groundbreaking products: the WiiM Sound, a high-resolution Wi-Fi and Bluetooth speaker; the WiiM Sub Pro, a powerful subwoofer; and the WiiM Amp Ultra, a versatile streaming amplifier. This strategic move marks a significant shift for WiiM, which has previously focused on amplifiers and add-ons, establishing it as a serious competitor in the audio streaming industry.
The WiiM Sound is designed to rival popular models like the Sonos Era 100. It features a similar configuration with two tweeters and a four-inch woofer, delivering a robust total output of 100W. This aligns with WiiM's strategy to capitalize on Sonos' recent challenges, particularly after issues with their app launch. The WiiM Sound aims to attract users seeking reliable multi-room streaming solutions without the baggage associated with Sonos.
Measuring 5.7x5.7x7.5 inches (146x146x193mm), the WiiM Sound is compact yet powerful. It boasts intuitive touch controls for playback and track navigation, mirroring those found on many leading wireless speakers. One standout feature of the WiiM Sound is its unique circular touchscreen, which allows users to view album artwork, upcoming tracks, and even retro VU meters, enhancing the overall user experience.
The WiiM Sound supports Hi-Res Audio streaming up to 24-bit/192 kHz, ensuring that audiophiles can enjoy superior sound quality. Users can control playback through the WiiM app, which facilitates multi-room audio streaming from over 20 music services, including Qobuz, Amazon, Tidal, and Spotify. Additionally, the speaker is compatible with Google Cast, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, and DLNA for seamless audio streaming.
However, it's important to note that the WiiM Sound does not support Apple Music or AirPlay 2, which could pose a challenge for users deeply integrated into the Apple ecosystem. While it does offer Bluetooth connectivity, the absence of these features may deter some potential buyers.
The WiiM Sub Pro is designed to enhance any audio setup with its 250W Class-D amplification and an eight-inch driver. Compact at 15.7x11.8x12.7 inches, this subwoofer can be paired wirelessly with WiiM products or connected via RCA to any device with a sub output. The WiiM app provides detailed crossover tuning adjustments, EQ options, and room correction, allowing users to tailor their listening experience to their environment.
The WiiM Amp Ultra is a new streaming amplifier that offers impressive power with 200W per channel at 4 ohms and 100W per channel at 8 ohms. It supports connections for up to four speakers, making it a flexible solution for various audio setups. The amp excels in streaming capabilities, supporting Hi-Res audio up to 24-bit/192 kHz, with the potential to decode files up to 32-bit/384 kHz thanks to its advanced ESS ES9039Q2M SABRE DAC.
With multiple input options, including USB, Ethernet, RCA, and an HDMI ARC port for home theater applications, the WiiM Amp Ultra is versatile enough for any audiophile. It also features a touchscreen for easy access to artwork and playback controls, along with a convenient volume dial.
Currently, WiiM has not announced the pricing for the WiiM Sound, WiiM Sub Pro, and WiiM Amp Ultra. All three products are expected to be available in Q3 2025, between July and September. While we anticipate that the WiiM Sound may be priced higher than the Sonos Era 100 due to its advanced touchscreen features, exact details will be revealed closer to the launch date.
With these new offerings, WiiM is poised to make a significant impact in the streaming audio market, providing consumers with robust alternatives to existing products and enhancing the overall audio experience.
