BMW has a long-standing tradition of showcasing exquisite vehicles at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, held annually in the picturesque setting of Lake Como, Italy. Last year, the spotlight was on the Skytop, an eye-catching two-seat convertible that was set for a limited-production run. The previous year featured the Concept Touring Coupe, a stunning two-door wagon that, unfortunately, never made it into production. This year, BMW continues its legacy of elegance by unveiling the Concept Speedtop at the 2025 Villa d'Este.
If the name Speedtop sounds familiar, it's because this striking wagon draws inspiration from last year's Skytop concept. Like its predecessor, the Speedtop shares the same foundational design, showcasing a captivating V-shaped, shark-nose front end, complete with matching light fixtures and an illuminated grille. The primary distinction lies in its enhanced storage capacity, making it not just visually appealing but also practical.
The Concept Speedtop features a unique aesthetic with a subtle color gradient on its roof. The striking Floating Sunstone Maroon paint transitions elegantly into a Floating Sundown Silver hue towards the rear. A central spline element flows gracefully over the hood, extending onto the roof and spoiler, while specially designed two-tone, 14-spoke wheels fill the wheel wells of this extraordinary vehicle.
Inside the cabin, the attention to detail continues with a sophisticated two-tone leather finish combining Sundown Maroon and Moonstone White. Elements from the exterior, particularly the Floating Sunstone Maroon, are beautifully integrated into the interior design, enhancing its luxurious feel. The standout spline detail from the exterior is mirrored inside with a light beam projected onto the two-tone leather headliner. The trunk area also reflects this opulence, featuring a split luggage compartment designed for maximum storage, complemented by custom Schedoni bags tailored to fit perfectly in either compartment.
However, the Concept Speedtop is not merely a stunning display of design; it is engineered for performance as well. Although BMW remains coy about the specifics, the company has confirmed that the Speedtop is equipped with the most powerful V-8 engine currently available from the brand. It is widely speculated that this engine is the well-known twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8, delivering an impressive 617 horsepower, similar to that of the Skytop.
Excitingly, the Speedtop is not just a concept; BMW plans to produce 70 units of this remarkable wagon for its elite clientele, though it will regrettably not be available in the United States. While the pricing details remain undisclosed, it is anticipated that the cost will be beyond the reach of the average automotive enthusiast.
Reflecting on the success of previous models, Bernd Körber, Senior Vice President of BMW Brand and Product Management, noted that the presentation of the Concept Skytop at last year's event sparked significant excitement among collectors and automotive aficionados. This enthusiasm paved the way for a limited production run of 50 units. Given the favorable reception, BMW has decided to produce the Concept Speedtop in a limited series of 70 units, now available for order.
In summary, the new BMW Concept Speedtop makes its world debut this weekend at the 2025 Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este in Italy, offering collectors and automotive enthusiasts yet another exclusive model to admire and potentially own.
