With the March 2025 Feature Drop, Google has officially rolled out the Pixel Camera 9.8. As with all software updates, this rollout will be gradual, meaning it may take some time before all users receive the new features. This latest update is somewhat smaller compared to the significant changes introduced in December, which included the addition of Quick access controls.
The most notable addition in the Pixel Camera 9.8 is the introduction of a new toggle: “Turn on animation for Astrophotography.” This feature can be found under Settings > Advanced and is enabled by default, replicating the previous behavior. Additionally, Google has clarified that the Palm timer feature, which allows users to take pictures by raising their hand, is fully compatible with the rear camera.
Users of the Pixel Fold will be pleased to know that they can now take advantage of the Dual Screen Preview feature while recording videos. Moreover, the Add Me function on the 9 Pro Fold can now be displayed on the external screen, enhancing the overall user experience and functionality of the device.
Another exciting feature for Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold users is the introduction of the remote Connected Cameras capability. This allows users to seamlessly capture or live stream using supported camera applications with remote cameras. Compatible devices include the Pixel 6+ and GoPro 10 and later models, provided they are updated with the latest software.
The remote Connected Cameras feature supports popular applications such as YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok. To utilize this feature, users may need to update the Device Connectivity Service app. This functionality is officially categorized under Cross-devices services, which also includes features like Call casting and Internet sharing.
To get started with Connected Cameras, navigate to Settings > Connected devices > Connected preferences > Connected Cameras to enable the feature. Once activated, and while using a compatible application, you will see the Camera Picker, a floating pill-shaped container that allows you to add, remove, or disconnect a remote camera, as well as switch between your device and the remote camera.
It is important to note a few key points regarding the Connected Cameras feature:
You can only connect to devices signed in with your Google Account. Only one remote camera can be connected at a time. To connect a different remote camera, you must first disconnect the current one. The audio is sourced from the camera currently in use. Using a Bluetooth audio source may affect the streaming quality. For more details on these features and how to maximize your experience with the Pixel Camera 9.8, keep an eye on future updates and announcements from Google.
