In a significant shift for its smartphone lineup, Apple is poised to replace the traditional iPhone Plus model with the all-new iPhone 17 Air. This upcoming device has generated considerable buzz, particularly regarding its thickness. Recent reports have provided intriguing insights into the dimensions of this ultra-thin smartphone, indicating that it may set a new standard in mobile design.
According to a report from The Information, the iPhone 17 Air is projected to have a thickness of approximately 6mm. Analyst Jeff Pu shares a similar perspective, predicting the same measurement for the device. However, renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has a slightly different take, suggesting that the iPhone 17 Air could measure as thin as 5.5mm at its thinnest point. This suggests a design that features a 5.5mm chassis complemented by a thicker rear camera bump.
Supporting Kuo's prediction, Chinese leaker Ice Universe has recently claimed that the camera bump on the iPhone 17 Air will be around 4.00mm thick. This would imply that the device's overall thickness could reach 9.5mm at its thickest point, making it an impressive feat of engineering.
Leaked images and renders indicate that the iPhone 17 Air will feature a single rear camera positioned on the left side of the device, with a microphone and LED flash located on the right. This arrangement fits neatly within an elongated camera bump, reminiscent of the runway-style bar found on Google Pixel phones, highlighting Apple's commitment to sleek design.
In terms of display, rumors suggest that the iPhone 17 Air will boast a screen size ranging between 6.6 inches and 6.7 inches. This makes it larger than the standard iPhone 17, which measures 6.3 inches, yet smaller than the flagship iPhone 17 Pro Max at 6.9 inches. Interestingly, Ice Universe previously claimed that the dimensions of the Air model are nearly identical to those of the Pro Max, differing only in thickness. However, this assertion conflicts with the majority of circulating rumors.
Ice Universe has established a track record for accurately predicting iPhone dimensions before their official release, including the sizes of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. If last week’s claims were merely an anomaly, the latest leaks regarding the iPhone 17 Air's dimensions could very well hold true.
As the excitement builds for the new iPhone lineup, Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 series around its customary mid-September timeframe. With the iPhone 17 Air's innovative design and advanced features, it is set to capture the attention of tech enthusiasts and consumers alike.
