Samsung has issued a crucial public safety alert aimed at Galaxy smartphone users in the UK, urging them to activate the latest anti-theft features available on their devices. This initiative is part of Samsung's ongoing commitment to combat mobile phone theft, a growing concern in urban areas. The company has highlighted these new features as part of the One UI 7 update, which enhances security for several Galaxy phones.
In a proactive move, Samsung is encouraging all Galaxy smartphone and tablet users in the UK to update their devices and enable the latest anti-theft measures. This campaign aligns with the UK Home Office’s efforts to reduce mobile phone thefts. The public safety alert is set to reach approximately 40 million Galaxy users across the nation, emphasizing the significance of enhancing device security.
The new and improved anti-theft features introduced by Samsung include:
Identity Check: This feature requires users to authenticate through biometrics when making changes to sensitive security settings in unfamiliar locations. Offline Device Lock: The device will automatically lock if it remains disconnected from the internet for an extended period. Remote Lock: Users can remotely lock their stolen devices using their phone number along with a verification step, enabling them to regain control and explore recovery options. Security Delay: This feature introduces a one-hour delay before any changes to biometric data take effect, providing users with the opportunity to activate Remote Lock and display a custom message on the device. Theft Detection Lock: Utilizing machine learning, this feature detects if the phone has been snatched and instantly locks the screen upon detection. These enhanced features are compatible with the Galaxy S22, S23, S24, S25 series, Galaxy Z Flip 5, Z Fold 5, Z Flip 6, Z Fold 6, and various other devices that have received the One UI 7.0 update.
Samsung has released a detailed list of instructions for Galaxy users on how to activate these anti-theft features. Additionally, the company has provided guidance on what to do if a device is lost or stolen. This information will be disseminated through the UK’s social media channels, and Samsung has invested significantly in marketing to raise awareness about the Samsung Knox Security Platform.
The awareness campaign will feature advertisements displayed on Samsung’s Piccadilly Lights, as well as outdoor advertising in key locations such as tube and train stations in central London. The campaign will also include content across online video platforms, connected TV, and broadcaster video on demand channels.
