Samsung is reportedly gearing up to unveil its groundbreaking tri-fold Galaxy device alongside the anticipated Galaxy Z Fold 7. The company is opting for a unique approach to the "tri-fold" concept, promising a design with seemingly twice the number of displays compared to competitors like Huawei. This innovation might make Samsung's offering a superior choice in the market.
It's undeniable that the popularity of foldable phones owes much to Samsung's persistent efforts to turn this futuristic concept into a reality. While companies like Oppo and Google have also contributed to the push for more reliable foldable devices, Samsung has played a pivotal role in advancing this segment of the market.
Recent reports suggest that Samsung aims to further expand its influence in the foldable market with a tri-fold Galaxy device set to launch alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 (via ETNews). Unlike the Galaxy Z Fold 7 that features an outer and inner screen connected by a single hinge, the new tri-fold phone is rumored to incorporate two hinges. This design closely resembles the Flex G prototype that Samsung showcased at CES.
As per the latest understanding, the tri-fold device will feature two hinges flanking the main external display. This outer screen is expected to match the size of current Z Fold devices, approximately 6.49 inches. Users can open the device like a letter, with a third of it unfolding at a time, eventually revealing a substantial 9.96-inch internal display akin to a tablet.
This development coincides with Huawei's launch of the Mate XT, which offers a distinct experience by opening in multiple steps for varied viewing modes. The Mate XT and Samsung's tri-fold will likely cater to different user preferences. The Galaxy foldable is anticipated to have an edge due to its design, which might protect the internal display from exposure around the fold, unlike the Mate XT. However, the Mate XT's engineering eliminates the need for dual displays.
There is limited information available about Samsung's tri-fold release. In contrast to the Galaxy Z Fold 7, there have been few leaks about the tri-fold, indicating that Samsung is closely guarding its development details. While a delay in the device's release is possible, it might still be announced simultaneously with the Fold 7.
