After the previous generation of foldable devices fell short of expectations, Samsung is poised to introduce significant enhancements with the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7. According to a recent report, the device will feature an updated design and significantly thinner hardware, measuring just 9.5mm when closed.
The Galaxy Z Fold 6, released in mid-2024, brought a new design but struggled with several shortcomings compared to other foldable phones. It was considerably thicker at 12.1mm when closed, had a pronounced display crease, and featured smaller displays. Samsung addressed many of these issues with the Galaxy Z Fold SE later in the year, and it seems the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will take further strides in innovation when it launches later this year.
According to a report from Android Headlines, sourced from @OnLeaks, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will measure 158.4 x 143.1 x 4.5mm when opened and approximately 9mm when closed (9.5mm including the camera bump). This marks a substantial improvement over the Galaxy Z Fold 6, which measured 12.1mm when closed. Although it remains slightly thicker than the current record holders, such as the Honor Magic V3 at 4.35mm and the Oppo Find N5 at 4.21mm when open, the new design is a significant step forward.
The report also unveils the first look at Samsung's updated design, which resembles a wider version of the Galaxy Z Fold 6. The new model retains the camera bump and squared corners that have become characteristic of this series.
Samsung is expected to equip the Galaxy Z Fold 7 with an 8.2-inch inner display and a 6.5-inch outer display, both larger than the previous generation and surpassing the display size of Google's Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Despite the larger screen size, the device will maintain the same 4,400 mAh battery capacity, as reported in other recent leaks. Additionally, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is rumored to feature an upgraded 200MP main camera, promising enhanced photography capabilities.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is anticipated to launch sometime in July. As Samsung continues to innovate and refine its foldable technology, more exciting developments are expected in the coming years.
