Samsung is set to launch three new flagship smartphones next year, but not all models are undergoing significant transformations. The base model features a new suffix, and the traditional ‘Plus’ model is being replaced by a slimmer variant. However, the standout device, the Galaxy S26 Ultra, appears to be more of an evolution rather than a revolution when compared to its predecessor.
Recent reports from Android Headlines, in collaboration with OnLeaks, have unveiled detailed renders of the Galaxy S26 Ultra, showcasing the smartphone from virtually every angle. The design remains largely unchanged, maintaining its flat edges and curved corners, which fans have come to appreciate. According to the leaked dimensions, the S26 Ultra is expected to be less than a millimeter taller and wider than the Galaxy S25 Ultra, while its thickness has been reduced from 8.2mm to 7.9mm—excluding the camera bump.
The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra introduces a new lens design that appears to be inspired by the protruding plateau first seen on the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Previous rumors suggested a potentially bulky camera module, and the latest leaks support this notion. The main chassis of the S26 Ultra remains under 8mm, but the camera system adds an additional 4.5mm, bringing the total thickness to 12.4mm. Unfortunately, this increase in thickness doesn’t correlate with significant improvements in camera technology.
According to Android Headlines, the main camera is a 1/1.3-inch 200MP f/1.4 sensor, representing a modest enhancement in aperture but not much else. The 10MP 3x telephoto lens may disappoint fans as it is rumored to utilize a smaller sensor than that of the Galaxy S25 Ultra. On the other hand, the 50MP ultra-wide and 5x periscope lenses are expected to remain unchanged.
Assuming Samsung retains the existing camera setup, it suggests that the design changes are largely cosmetic, aimed at aligning the S26 Ultra’s appearance with other Samsung flagship devices. This raises questions about whether the company is prioritizing design consistency over technological advancements in its camera system.
With several months left until Samsung's anticipated Unpacked event, there will likely be more updates and insights regarding what will set the Galaxy S26 Ultra apart from its competitors. As rumors continue to circulate, tech enthusiasts and Samsung fans alike are eager to learn more about this next-generation smartphone and its features.
