In the past, choosing a monitor for competitive gaming often meant making sacrifices between different display technologies. Gamers had to decide between an IPS or VA panel for high refresh rates or settle for a slower OLED display that offered richer colors and superior contrast. However, Samsung is redefining the landscape with its latest innovation, the Odyssey OLED G6, which proudly holds the title of the world's first 500Hz OLED gaming monitor.
The Odyssey OLED G6, model G60SF, is available for an attractive price of $1,000 and comes in a single size of 27 inches. This monitor boasts a QHD resolution of 2,560 x 1440 pixels with a standard 16:9 aspect ratio. The highlight of this monitor is its astonishingly rapid 500Hz refresh rate paired with an ultra-fast 0.03ms (GTG) response time. This combination is a dream come true for competitive gamers seeking performance without compromise.
Equipped with a QD-OLED panel, the Odyssey OLED G6 features a matte anti-reflective coating, ensuring vibrant colors and deep blacks. It also supports both AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and NVIDIA G-Sync, making it versatile for a range of gaming setups. After experiencing the monitor firsthand, it’s clear that it delivers stunning visuals while meeting the rigorous demands of competitive gaming.
While the Odyssey OLED G6 excels in many areas, it is a straightforward product without Samsung's smart features, such as an integrated remote or the Gaming Hub. Additionally, with a typical brightness of just 300 nits, it may not be the ideal choice for brightly lit rooms, despite being VESA DisplayHDR TrueBlack 500 certified. However, these limitations do not detract from its primary purpose: delivering fast gaming experiences without sacrificing visual quality.
For those who may want to use the monitor beyond gaming, the Odyssey OLED G6 is Pantone Validated and covers 99 percent of the DCI-P3 spectrum, making it suitable for photo and video editing as well.
In addition to the Odyssey OLED G6, Samsung is also launching two new additions to the Odyssey G7 line. The smaller model is a 37-inch version that features a 4K curved 16:9 VA panel, offering a typical brightness of 350 nits and a refresh rate of 165Hz. For those who prefer an ultra-wide experience, the 40-inch Odyssey G7 provides the same brightness and 1000R curve as its smaller counterpart, along with a 21:9 WUHD resolution of 5,120 x 2160 pixels and an enhanced refresh rate of 180Hz.
Interestingly, even though the 40-inch model is wider, the 37-inch Odyssey G7 appears larger due to its 16:9 aspect ratio. Both models benefit from their higher brightness levels, achieving VESA Display HDR 600 ratings.
All three monitors are now available for purchase. The Odyssey OLED G6 is priced at $1,000, while the 37-inch Odyssey G7 can be yours for $900, and the larger 40-inch Odyssey G7 is available for $1,200. With these new offerings, Samsung is set to enhance the gaming experience for both competitive players and multimedia enthusiasts alike.
