On Wednesday morning, Porsche revealed that the highly sought-after all-wheel-drive variants of the 911 Carrera S will be making a comeback this fall. These models will feature the same enhancements that have previously been rolled out across the 992.2 lineup. While the mechanical upgrades are not groundbreaking, they continue to enhance the vehicle's performance and appeal.
The newly updated 911 Carrera 4S models will benefit from a noteworthy increase of 30 horsepower, similar to the rear-wheel-drive versions that are already available for purchase. This additional power is attributed to an optimized intercooler configuration developed specifically for the 911 Turbo. As a result, the 4S models will deliver a more exhilarating driving experience.
Porsche has calibrated the all-wheel-drive system of the 4S models with a rearward bias, which adds a playful character to the car's handling dynamics. In addition to the performance upgrades, all 4S models come equipped with a standard sport exhaust, enhanced brakes, and the innovative Torque Vectoring Plus differential setup, ensuring exceptional handling and control.
The Targa 4S stands out from the Coupe and Cabriolet with the inclusion of rear-axle steering as standard equipment. For those who prefer the Coupe or Cabriolet models, this feature can be added as an optional upgrade to achieve similar handling capabilities. The all-wheel-drive system not only enhances traction but also contributes to improved acceleration, allowing all three models to reach 60 mph in a mere 3.1 seconds.
All performance metrics were recorded using the standard dual-clutch PDK transmission, as the manual transmission option for the 911 has been discontinued. The 2026 lineup of the Porsche 911 Carrera 4S will include the Coupe, Cabriolet, and Targa models, all of which are set to hit the market later this year.
Excitingly, these new models are already featured in Porsche’s online configurator. However, the company has yet to disclose pricing information, which is expected to be announced closer to their official on-sale date this fall.
