The Nintendo Switch 2 is Now Available for Purchase in the US

The highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 is officially available for purchase in the United States. Priced at $450, the console went on sale at midnight ET on June 5, with various retailers offering both online and in-store purchase options. As expected, online stock quickly depleted, and as of our latest update on Friday afternoon, availability remains extremely limited. This includes Target, which initiated its online sales at approximately 3:30 AM ET on June 6. Generally, shoppers have had greater success obtaining the console by visiting physical retail locations. While we cannot guarantee availability, several Engadget staff members successfully purchased a Switch 2 at their local Target or GameStop without prior pre-orders. If you're still searching for this exciting new device, check nearby retailers such as Target, GameStop, Walmart, and Best Buy—Nintendo’s four official retailers— to see if they have any consoles in stock.

Where to Buy the Nintendo Switch 2

Walmart opened online sales for the Switch 2 at midnight ET on June 5, but both the standalone console and the Mario Kart World bundle are currently out of stock. As the world’s largest retailer, Walmart is also selling the console at its physical locations. However, quantities are limited, and availability will vary by store, so it’s worth checking whether a Walmart near you still has devices in stock.

Target began offering the Switch 2 in-store on June 5. Although the retailer warned that supply would be limited and the console may already be sold out, it’s still worth investigating the closest locations. Notably, Engadget's Billy Steele was able to purchase a Switch 2 at a Target outside of Greensboro, NC, as late as 4:15 PM ET on Thursday. Target restocked its online inventory around 3:30 AM ET on June 6, and those listings remained active for a couple of hours before selling out.

GameStop held launch events on Wednesday and advertised in-store availability, although this will differ by location. Engadget's Cherlynn Low successfully purchased the console without a pre-order at a GameStop in the New York City area on Thursday morning. That specific location had nearly 80 units available, but inventory levels will vary at other stores, especially in more populated areas. Currently, the console is unavailable on GameStop's website, and a $625 bundle that includes Mario Kart World and various accessories has been less frequently available than the standard versions. Although it briefly returned to stock on Thursday afternoon, it is currently sold out.

Best Buy also held in-store launch events, indicating limited stock availability at retail locations starting June 5. However, it has not made the console available for online purchase during the launch week. Membership-based retailers may also have some luck. A Mario Kart World bundle at Costco, which includes a 12-month Switch Online subscription, has gone in and out of stock since Thursday morning, while Sam's Club has offered a bundle that does not include the Switch Online subscription. A membership is required for both stores. We also spotted the console at BJ's early Thursday, but as of Friday afternoon, they are out of stock.

Verizon briefly had the Switch 2 available for purchase on Thursday morning, but it has since sold out, with availability limited to customers with Verizon service. Currently, Amazon does not list any Switch 2 devices or first-party games such as Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza. The company also did not take any pre-orders for the Switch 2, leaving uncertainty about when it will offer the console. Newegg has had the Switch 2 listed for several weeks but has yet to commence sales.

Availability of Switch 2 Games and Accessories

Naturally, Nintendo is releasing a variety of Switch 2 accessories alongside the console, including controllers, cases, and cameras designed to utilize the system's new GameChat feature. Most of these items became available on June 5 as well, joining popular games like Mario Kart World and the Switch 2 version of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Another significant release, Donkey Kong Bananza, is set to launch in mid-July, but you can still pre-order it today. As of Friday afternoon, the majority of Switch 2 games are widely available, although stock for accessories varies, with some items harder to find than others. Notably, Nintendo's official Switch 2 carrying cases seem to be the most elusive at this time.

For those interested, here are some key Switch 2 titles and accessories currently available:
