Microsoft has significantly upgraded its AI-powered Copilot digital assistant, introducing robust features that enhance productivity for users of Office applications. The latest updates allow Copilot to generate Office documents and connect seamlessly with various email accounts, including Outlook and Gmail, as well as third-party services such as Google Calendar and Google Drive.
The new features are currently rolling out across all Insider Channels via the Microsoft Store, specifically targeting systems where Copilot has been updated to version 1.25095.161.0 or higher. Once the rollout reaches your device, users will be able to link Copilot to both Google and Microsoft online services. This integration allows users to ask Copilot to search and summarize information from their emails, files, and calendars with ease.
Microsoft has made it clear that these connectors are not enabled by default. Users must opt-in and manually configure their connections within the settings of the Copilot Windows app. According to the Microsoft Copilot Team, users can link both Microsoft and third-party accounts to Copilot. To activate these features, simply open the Settings page in the Copilot app, scroll to the Connectors section, and enable connections for OneDrive, Outlook, Google Drive, Gmail, Google Calendar, or Google Contacts.
Another exciting enhancement is Copilot's ability to generate and export Office documents directly from user prompts. Responses exceeding 600 characters now come with an export button by default, allowing users to save their text as a Word, PowerPoint, Excel, or PDF file. Users can simply instruct Copilot by saying, "Export this text to a Word document" or "Create an Excel file from this table," and Copilot will handle the creation of the file automatically.
This update empowers users to transform their ideas, notes, and data into shareable and editable documents almost instantly, eliminating the need for extra steps or additional tools. The enhancements to Copilot are being gradually rolled out to Insiders worldwide, although not all participants in the Windows Insider Program will receive these features immediately.
Microsoft encourages testers to share their experiences and feedback regarding the new features. Users can easily provide feedback within the Copilot app by clicking on the profile icon and selecting the Give feedback option. This initiative allows Microsoft to refine Copilot's capabilities and ensure a user-friendly experience for all.
