Logitech is enhancing its Powerplay lineup of wireless charging accessories with the launch of the Powerplay 2 mouse pad. This new iteration is a more affordable and slimmer version of the original Powerplay mouse pad launched in 2017. The Powerplay 2 will be backwards compatible with Logitech's existing family of Powerplay accessories, offering a seamless transition for current users.
The original Powerplay mouse pad debuted at a price of $119.99, while the new Powerplay 2 will be available for $99, set to launch on March 11. This price reduction, along with its updated features, makes the Powerplay 2 an appealing choice for gamers and tech enthusiasts alike.
The Powerplay system is a standout in the realm of gaming peripherals, allowing users to operate a variety of Logitech’s wireless mice without needing to recharge them. The system utilizes a small puck that fits into the bottom of the mouse, enabling continuous wireless power transfer from the mouse pad. The charging puck included with the Powerplay 2 is compatible with 10 different models of Logitech gaming mice and is designed to add minimal weight.
Aesthetically, the Powerplay 2 mouse pad doesn't diverge significantly from its predecessor but is slightly smaller, with dimensions of 344 x 284 mm compared to the original's 321 x 344 mm. It is also slimmer, with a profile of just 1.3 mm. Notably, the charging area of the Powerplay 2 is 15% larger than before, and it now utilizes a USB-C connection instead of the micro-USB found on the original model.
Having used Logitech’s G502 X Plus in conjunction with the original Powerplay mouse pad since 2022, I have not needed to recharge it once. While the Powerplay 2 might seem like a modest upgrade, it is encouraging to see Logitech continue to support and improve this distinctive accessory, unlike Razer’s short-lived Hyperflux mouse from 2018.
