Good morning and welcome to our blog, where we bring you the latest updates on Blue Origin’s 11th human flight. This remarkable mission will see Jeff Bezos's bride-to-be, Lauren Sanchez, embark on an extraordinary journey alongside five other talented women. This flight is being celebrated as the first all-female crew to attempt such a significant venture into the cosmos.
The crew consists of six inspiring women: Amanda Nguyen, a dedicated civil rights activist poised to become the first Vietnamese woman to fly to space; CBS Mornings co-host Gayle King; pop superstar Katy Perry; film producer Kerianne Flynn; entrepreneur and former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe; and the renowned journalist and philanthropist, Lauren Sanchez. Together, they will launch aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket from the company’s launch site, located 30 miles north of Van Horn, Texas. This mission will take them on an 11-minute suborbital flight to the edge of space and back.
While this mission is being heralded as the first all-female crew to reach the Kármán line—the internationally recognized boundary of space at an altitude of 62 miles—it’s important to note that it isn’t the first instance of a woman traveling to space. The legendary cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova made history with her solo mission in 1963. However, this current flight marks a significant cultural moment, showcasing the modern advancements and the empowerment of women in space exploration.
In a fun twist, the crew is not only focused on the mission but also on style. During a recent photoshoot for Elle magazine, the women proudly declared, “We’re a crew!” while showcasing their all-black power looks. The publication highlighted that this flight marks the first time anyone has ventured into space with their hair and makeup done. Lauren Sanchez expressed her excitement, saying, “Who would not get glam before the flight?” Katy Perry added humorously, “Space is going to finally be glam. Let me tell you something. If I could take glam up with me, I would do that. We are going to put the ‘ass’ in astronaut.”
This historic flight is set to inspire countless individuals around the world and redefine the landscape of space exploration. For our full preview of the flight and further insights, see here:
