Next year’s iPhone lineup is set to introduce an exciting new addition: the highly anticipated iPhone Fold or possibly the iPhone Ultra. Recent reports from The Elec have shed light on the expected screen sizes for this innovative foldable model and have raised concerns about potential delays in its launch.
According to a research note from the Japanese firm Mizuho Securities, the iPhone Fold is expected to feature the following screen sizes: an outer display measuring 5.38 inches and an inner display of 7.58 inches. These dimensions are slightly smaller than earlier predictions, which estimated the outer display at 5.5 inches and the inner display at 7.8 inches.
For context, the current smallest display on an iPhone is found on the iPhone 16e, which has a screen size of 6.1 inches. The flagship iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro feature displays of 6.3 inches, while the iPhone Air offers a 6.5-inch screen. The iPhone 17 Pro Max leads the lineup with a substantial 6.9-inch display. When folded, the iPhone Fold will resemble the now-discontinued iPhone mini, which had a similar 5.4-inch display size.
Mizuho’s report also highlights concerns regarding Apple’s planned launch for the iPhone Fold in the fall of 2026. The firm notes that the extended finalization process for the device's design, particularly its hinge mechanism, may lead to supply constraints. While a 2026 launch still seems feasible, Apple may face challenges in meeting its initial supply expectations.
If production issues arise, there is a possibility that the launch could be pushed back to 2027. Given that we are still a year away from the expected launch, there is ample time for changes to occur. However, based on previous timelines, we anticipate hearing more about Apple’s foldable iPhone plans as we approach the end of 2025.
