Apple's last significant software update, iOS 18.3, was released in late January. While we await the first iOS 18.4 beta, Apple has provided a specific timeline for the public release of iOS 18.4. Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming update.
It's uncommon for Apple to disclose software release dates well in advance, but iOS 18.4 is an exception. As far back as October, during the launch of the first Apple Intelligence features, Apple indicated that an April update would introduce additional AI languages. According to software trends and Mark Gurman's reports, it was evident that this April update would be iOS 18.4.
Recently, Apple became more precise. Updates on Apple's website now specify “early April” as the projected launch date for iOS 18.4 (via MacRumors). The official iOS 18 page states: "Apple Intelligence is available in beta… Additional features and… language support available in early April." This suggests that iOS 18.4 will likely launch before mid-month, possibly during the week of April 7, though a Monday, April 14 launch could still fall under "early April." Regardless, the release of iOS 18.4 is imminent.
Mark Gurman has reported that iOS 18.4 will bring significant Siri improvements. We are currently awaiting three major Apple Intelligence upgrades for Siri, including:
New app actions: Siri will be capable of performing hundreds of new actions in Apple apps without needing to open them. App Intents will extend this functionality to supported third-party apps. Personal context knowledge: Siri will function like a real-life assistant, allowing you to reference texts, past calendar events, and other personal data for intelligent assistance. Onscreen awareness: Siri will recognize what's on your display, enabling you to ask it to act on whatever you're viewing.Though Gurman initially anticipated these features in iOS 18.4, he recently suggested that some Siri improvements might be delayed or limited until iOS 18.5, potentially released as early as May. Reports indicate that Apple employees testing the new Siri have found inconsistencies in these features, and with the software nearing finalization, it's uncertain whether iOS 18.4 will include all the planned improvements. Some features may debut, while others might be postponed to iOS 18.5.
Beyond Siri, iOS 18.4 is expected to offer additional AI enhancements, such as a priority notification feature, a refreshed style for the Image Playground app, and more.
