Now that Pebble has returned to its roots, we are excited to share an official preview of the upcoming Pebble Time 2, which is set to ship to customers later this year. While we caught a glimpse of preliminary designs back in March, the latest updates were unveiled by Core Devices CEO Eric Migicovsky on his blog and YouTube channel.
The Pebble Time 2 will be available in four distinct colors, although the final selections are still under consideration. Migicovsky stated that the company is actively seeking feedback from Pebble fans to finalize the color choices. One of the standout features of this smartwatch is its construction, featuring a stainless steel front, back, and buttons that closely resemble those of the original Pebble Time Steel.
In addition to its robust design, the Pebble Time 2 will include several innovative features such as multicolor RGB backlighting, a second microphone, a screw-mounted back cover, and a built-in compass. The watch is designed to be lightweight, weighing approximately 48 grams with the strap, and 32.5 grams for the case alone.
This new smartwatch promises impressive specifications that were teased earlier. The Pebble Time 2 will boast a 1.5-inch 64-color e-paper display, a responsive touch screen, and compatibility with standard 22mm straps. Moreover, it will come equipped with a heart rate monitor and an impressive 30-day battery life—features that make it a standout option in the wearable technology market.
“This is basically the watch of my dreams,” Migicovsky enthusiastically shared in his video, highlighting his passion for the device. The design maintains the minimalist aesthetic that the original Pebble Time is known for, but with an enhanced, sleeker profile and rounded edges for a modern touch.
When compared to the more polished Pebble Time Steel, the bezels on the new Pebble Time 2 are significantly smaller, allowing for a more immersive display experience. The glass surface has also been flattened to reduce reflections when viewed from different angles, ensuring clarity and visibility in various lighting conditions.
For those who have pre-ordered the Pebble 2 Duo but are interested in switching to the Pebble Time 2, Migicovsky has confirmed that no special actions are required. The company will be sending out a survey to customers who have already placed their orders within the next month, making the transition seamless.
