ISSEY MIYAKE and Apple have joined forces to unveil the innovative iPhone Pocket, a stylish accessory that redefines how users carry their iPhones and other pocketable items. This groundbreaking product features a singular 3D-knitted construction that is not only functional but also beautifully designed, inspired by the concept of “a piece of cloth.”
The iPhone Pocket will be available starting Friday, November 14, at select Apple Store locations and on apple.com across several regions, including France, Greater China, Italy, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, the UK, and the U.S. This limited-edition accessory is set to capture the attention of tech enthusiasts and fashion lovers alike.
With its unique ribbed open structure, the iPhone Pocket embodies the essence of ISSEY MIYAKE's original pleated designs. This versatile accessory is created to fully enclose any iPhone, while also allowing for additional everyday items. When stretched, the open textile subtly reveals its contents, giving users a glimpse of their iPhone display.
One of the standout features of the iPhone Pocket is its multifunctionality: it can be worn in various ways—handheld, tied onto bags, or directly on the body. The accessory boasts a playful color palette, with the short strap design available in eight vibrant colors and the long strap design in three elegant shades.
“The design of iPhone Pocket speaks to the bond between iPhone and its user, while maintaining the universal aesthetic and versatility that Apple products embody,” stated Yoshiyuki Miyamae, design director of MIYAKE DESIGN STUDIO. He emphasized that the iPhone Pocket explores the joy of personal expression and the beauty of simplicity, which aligns with ISSEY MIYAKE's design philosophy.
Molly Anderson, Apple’s vice president of Industrial Design, echoed these sentiments, highlighting that the iPhone Pocket exemplifies a shared design approach between Apple and ISSEY MIYAKE that celebrates craftsmanship and delight. The accessory’s color palette is intentionally curated to complement all iPhone models, allowing users to create personalized combinations.
Crafted in Japan, the iPhone Pocket showcases the results of extensive research and development at ISSEY MIYAKE. It reinterprets the everyday utility of the brand’s iconic pleated clothing. The collaborative effort with the Apple Design Studio ensured that the development and production processes were seamlessly integrated, resulting in a product that stands out in both design and functionality.
The iPhone Pocket is available in two designs: the short strap version retails for $149.95 (U.S.), while the long strap version is priced at $229.95 (U.S.). Customers can begin purchasing the iPhone Pocket on November 14, both in select Apple Store locations and online at apple.com.
