Multiple reports indicate that Google is set to announce the highly anticipated Pixel 10 lineup in mid-August. While speculation has predominantly revolved around the upcoming smartphones, a recent leak suggests that a new pair of budget earbuds may also make their debut alongside these devices.
According to a post on X by renowned leaker @MysteryLupin, Google is expected to unveil the Pixel Buds 2a in an exciting array of colors, including Hazel, Strawberry, Iris, and Fog Light. This leak marks the first time that the existence of the Buds 2a has been explicitly mentioned, generating buzz among tech enthusiasts and potential buyers alike.
Unfortunately, the details surrounding these upcoming earbuds are sparse, as the post did not elaborate on specifications or features. However, given that the original Pixel Buds A-Series launched back in June 2021, many believe that a refresh is long overdue. With @MysteryLupin's strong track record of accurate last-minute product leaks, there is little reason to doubt the validity of this claim.
In our initial review of the Pixel Buds A-Series, we praised the significant improvements made over Google's previous earbuds, especially considering their budget-friendly price. However, the market landscape has evolved, with numerous affordable earbuds now competing at a similar price point of around $100, offering features like Advanced Noise Cancellation (ANC) and multipoint connectivity. It is hoped that the new Pixel Buds 2a will address these shortcomings and enhance battery life for a more competitive edge.
In a separate post, @MysteryLupin also hinted that Google plans to refresh the Pixel Buds Pro 2 by introducing a new Sterling color option, which is essentially a light gray shade. The premium earbuds originally launched in August 2024 alongside the Pixel 9 lineup, initially available in four colors: Charcoal, Porcelain, Aloe, and Hot Pink. This new color variant appears to coincide with the one-year anniversary of the Pixel Buds Pro 2.
Notably, while the original Pixel Buds Pro were available in six colors, the upcoming refresh will still provide one fewer option compared to its predecessor, suggesting a more streamlined selection. This color update may attract new customers looking for a stylish and versatile audio accessory.
As the launch date for the Pixel 10 lineup approaches, the tech community eagerly anticipates the announcement of Google's new budget earbuds, the Pixel Buds 2a, along with the refreshed Pixel Buds Pro 2. With the potential for innovative features and stylish color options, these products could redefine the earbud market and enhance the overall user experience.
