Following last week’s highly anticipated announcement, Google Messages is now rolling out a series of innovative features, including “Snooze notifications” and “Delete for everyone”. These updates are being made available to users on the stable channel, enhancing the overall messaging experience. This article delves into the details of these new functionalities and how they improve user interaction.
One of the most noteworthy additions to Google Messages is the new “Snooze notifications” feature. Users can now easily manage their conversations by long-pressing on a specific chat from the app’s homepage. This action reveals a new Snooze icon, conveniently located between the pinning and archiving options at the top of the interface.
Upon tapping the Snooze icon, a panel appears offering various snooze durations: 1 hour, 8 hours, 24 hours, and Always. Importantly, other chat members will not be notified that you have snoozed the conversation. Once snoozed, the chat will appear grayed out, with a snooze icon displayed underneath the time and date. If you need to undo this action, simply long-press the chat again and tap the clock icon to reactivate notifications.
Another significant enhancement in Google Messages is the “Delete for everyone” feature, which is available in RCS conversations. This allows users to take control of their sent messages. By long-pressing on a message and selecting the trash icon, users can choose between two options: Delete for everyone or Delete for me.
It’s important to note that while the “Delete for everyone” option is now available, messages may still be visible to recipients who are using older app versions. This addition aligns Google Messages more closely with the functionalities offered by modern messaging applications, giving users greater confidence in their privacy.
In addition to the new notification and deletion features, users can now rename RCS group chats, providing a more personalized experience. Furthermore, the app has introduced the option to customize the 2×2 circular grid of profile avatars with a unique icon. Users can upload their own images or select from a variety of Google Illustrations, adding a personal touch to group conversations.
Lastly, the New chat page in Google Messages now displays the RCS status with a label on the right, allowing users to easily identify their message capabilities. Moreover, the app offers Dynamic Color theming for stable users (version 20250528_00_RC00), ensuring a visually appealing and cohesive user experience.
These new features in Google Messages not only enhance user interaction but also reflect the platform's commitment to staying competitive in the evolving messaging landscape. With functionalities like “Snooze notifications” and “Delete for everyone,” users can enjoy a more streamlined and personalized messaging experience.
