Google has officially rolled out its new and affordable AI Plus plan, now available in more than 40 countries. This expansion includes nations such as Angola, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Indonesia, Kenya, Mexico, Nepal, Nigeria, Philippines, Senegal, Uganda, Vietnam, and Zimbabwe. The company first introduced this innovative plan in Indonesia earlier this month, priced at Rp 75,000 (approximately $4.50) per month.
The AI Plus plan is competitively priced at around $5 in most regions. To make it even more accessible, Google is offering a significant discount of 50% for the first six months in select locations, including Nepal and Mexico. This strategy aims to attract a wider audience, especially in regions where a standard $20 subscription can be a financial burden.
This announcement comes just a day after OpenAI expanded its sub-$5 ChatGPT Go plan to Indonesia, intensifying the competition in the AI subscription market. Interestingly, India, where OpenAI first launched ChatGPT Go, is notably absent from Google’s rollout list. Both tech giants currently offer a $20 per month base plan, but with these new and cheaper subscription tiers, they are strategically positioning themselves to attract a larger user base in emerging markets.
With the introduction of the AI Plus plan, Google is not only enhancing its presence in the global AI landscape but also making sophisticated technology more accessible to users in developing countries. By focusing on affordability and a rich suite of features, Google aims to capture the interest of potential subscribers and remain competitive against other AI service providers.
