The highly anticipated Gemini upgrade for Google TV is set to enhance the viewing experience for users across various TV models. This significant update is already available on the TCL QM9K TV and is reportedly rolling out early on Sony Bravia TVs. While Google had not initially included Sony in their list of confirmed Gemini-compatible models, users are now sharing their experiences, confirming the update’s arrival.
One user, identified as Proshis_Saha_Swopna, recently shared screenshots on Reddit showcasing the Gemini update on their Bravia TV, which is running Android TV 14. The user noted that the Gemini icon appeared on their home screen after updating the Google TV Home app from the Play Store, hinting at a broader rollout of this exciting upgrade.
The shared screenshots highlight several Gemini features designed to improve personalization and voice interaction. Users can now enjoy a new range of voice options, including names like Oxalis, Fern, Croton, Amaryllis, Pothos, and Calathea, which have been introduced from Google's Nest speakers. In total, there are ten voices available, mirroring the options found on mobile devices, although the names and themes differ. For instance, the calm, mid-range voice called Nova on Android is known as Bloom on Google TV, showcasing a unique botanical theme.
The primary goal of the Gemini upgrade is to enhance the TV’s capability to respond to user queries in a more conversational manner. Users can ask questions such as, “Show me the highest-rated show on HBO Max,” and expect a seamless interaction. Beyond entertainment queries, Gemini can summarize daily headlines, generate personalized screensavers, find relevant YouTube clips, and even create images, making it a versatile upgrade for Google TV users.
Google has confirmed that the Gemini upgrade will be available first on the TCL QM9K model and will later be rolled out to TCL's other models including QM7K, QM8K, and X11K. Additionally, future updates will include the 2025 Hisense U8, U7, and UX models. The Gemini feature will also be integrated into the Google TV Streamer and the Walmart onn 4K Pro streaming box. This means that by next year, Gemini is expected to be accessible on many of the best TVs available.
