On a recent post on X, Musk announced his intent to utilize Grok 3.5—potentially dubbed Grok 4—to fundamentally overhaul the entirety of human knowledge. This initiative aims to integrate missing information while eliminating inaccuracies from existing data sources.
Musk stated, "We will use Grok 3.5, which has advanced reasoning capabilities, to rewrite the entire corpus of human knowledge." He emphasized the necessity of retraining Grok's latest model on this newly curated information base to ensure it is devoid of what he termed "proverbial waste." He expressed concern over the prevalence of "garbage" within foundation models that rely on uncorrected datasets.
For years, Musk has pursued the development of innovative products, such as the rebranded Twitter and Grok, aiming to liberate them from what he perceives as detrimental mainstream restrictions. In a previous report by Business Insider, it was revealed that Grok's team of AI tutors was being trained on a variety of contentious topics. This strategic move positions Grok to compete directly with OpenAI's ChatGPT, which Musk has critiqued for its perceived biases.

Gary Marcus, a noted critic of AI hype and professor emeritus at New York University, likened Musk's initiative to an Orwellian dystopia, referencing George Orwell’s classic novel, 1984. In his response on X, Marcus remarked, "You couldn't get Grok to align with your own personal beliefs, so you are going to rewrite history to make it conform to your views."
The implications of a revamped Grok could be significant. Back in May, as Musk shifted his focus away from political engagements in Washington, DC, Reuters reported that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was planning to leverage Grok for analyzing government data. Sources indicated that officials were using the AI to pose questions, prepare reports, and conduct data analyses.
Despite the promise of Grok, concerns about its safety and reliability persist. Reports surfaced that officials within the Department of Homeland Security were encouraged to utilize Grok, even though the tool had not received formal approval. A spokesperson for the department clarified to The New Republic that DOGE had not mandated the use of any specific tools or products.

In May, following what the company described as an unauthorized backend modification, the bot began making alarming references to concepts such as "white genocide" in South Africa. The company promptly took action, resolving the issue and conducting a thorough investigation.
