Apple has officially rolled out a revised version of the iOS 26 Developer Beta for users of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16. This update follows the initial release that took place shortly after the keynote event on June 9th, coinciding with the first day of the WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference). Although it is labeled a Developer Beta, it's important to note that you don't need to be a registered developer to install this update. In fact, Apple has eliminated the previous $99 fee associated with developer registration.
The removal of the developer fee means that many iPhone users with compatible models can now experience the iOS 26 Beta on their devices, albeit with the usual beta bugs. However, the question arises: why did Apple feel the need to issue a revised Developer Beta today? The answer lies in a significant bug identified in the first release.
This major bug could cause the low battery symbol to appear in the status bar, potentially preventing an iPhone from turning on after the installation of the first iOS 26 Developer Beta. The latest update aims to resolve this battery issue, thereby preventing the risk of bricking an iPhone 15 or iPhone 16 model. It’s worth noting that users with iPhone 11 through iPhone 14 series models are not at risk of encountering this battery problem, even if they have installed the initial iOS 26 Developer Beta.
For those wondering about compatibility, any iPhone older than the iPhone 11 is not supported by the new iOS 26 build. The primary goal of the Developer Beta is to assist developers in making necessary adjustments to their applications, ensuring compatibility with the new operating system. Apple has also announced plans to release the first iOS 26 Public Beta in July, with the stable version expected to launch in September, coinciding with the unveiling of the new iPhone 17 series.
One of the standout features of the iOS 26 Developer Beta 1 is the innovative Liquid Glass design. This design incorporates a translucent aesthetic with real-time light refraction, presenting a modern and cohesive look that enhances user engagement.
If you previously registered with the Apple Beta Software Program, installing the new beta is straightforward. Simply navigate to Settings > General > Software Update. At the top of the Software Update page, tap on Beta Updates, and on the subsequent page, select iOS 26 Developer Beta. A check mark will confirm your selection. Return to Settings > General > Software Update, and you should receive a prompt to install the iOS 26 Developer Beta. Be sure to follow the on-screen instructions to download the update to your device. Additionally, it is highly recommended to back up your iPhone before proceeding with the installation.
