Apple is actively working to resolve a bug in its dictation feature on certain iPhone models. This issue briefly suggests the word “Trump” when users speak words containing the “R” consonant, including the word “racist”.
The discovery of this glitch has led to significant controversy, with several iPhone users taking to social media to share videos explaining how the bug manifests. According to these videos, when users activate the dictation feature and say the word “racist,” the word “Trump” momentarily appears in the text window before being corrected.
In response to the situation, Apple issued a statement to The Associated Press on Wednesday. The company acknowledged the issue with the speech recognition model underlying the Dictation feature and confirmed that it is currently deploying a fix. Apple explained that the speech recognition models might present words with some phonetic overlap, causing the incorrect word suggestion.
Apple further noted that other words containing an “R” consonant have also been erroneously triggering this bug. However, The Associated Press reported that they could not replicate the problem on Wednesday, indicating that the issue might not affect all users or has already been addressed in some cases.
As Apple continues to roll out the fix, users are advised to update their devices to ensure the most accurate voice-to-text performance on their iPhones.
