Next month, the AirPods Max will become the only headphones that allow musicians to both create and mix in Personalized Spatial Audio with head tracking capability. This exciting update is set to enhance the way artists produce music and enjoy audio content. A new software update will bring lossless audio and ultra-low latency audio to AirPods Max, ensuring an unparalleled listening experience and improved performance for music production.
The upcoming update will unlock 24-bit, 48 kHz lossless audio for AirPods Max, preserving the integrity of original recordings. This means listeners can experience music exactly as the artists intended, creating a studio-like atmosphere right in their ears. Additionally, lossless audio extends to Personalized Spatial Audio, delivering a more sonically accurate, uncompressed, and immersive listening experience. With this enhancement, users can access over 100 million songs in lossless audio via Apple Music.
For music creators, the combination of lossless audio and ultra-low latency audio significantly enhances their workflow. AirPods Max will be fully compatible with professional music production software like Logic Pro and other music creation apps. The inclusion of a USB-C cable means that AirPods Max will be the only headphones capable of enabling musicians to create and mix in Personalized Spatial Audio while maintaining high fidelity. This allows for seamless recording and mixing without compromising on sound quality.
Gamers and livestreamers will also benefit from the ultra-low latency audio feature. This technology dramatically reduces lag time, aligning with the performance of the native built-in speakers on devices like the Mac, iPad, and iPhone. With no response delay, users can enjoy a smoother, more immersive gameplay and livestreaming experience, making AirPods Max an excellent choice for both casual and professional gamers.
The lossless audio and ultra-low latency audio features will be available in April as a free firmware update through iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4, and macOS Sequoia 15.4 for AirPods Max with USB-C. Currently, AirPods Max are priced at $549 (U.S.) and come in five attractive colors: midnight, starlight, blue, purple, and orange. They can be purchased from apple.com/store, the Apple Store app, and through Apple Authorized Resellers.
Additionally, a USB-C to 3.5 mm audio cable will be available for $39 (U.S.), allowing users to connect AirPods Max to various audio sources, including the audio-out port on airplanes and the audio-in ports on car stereos or other speakers. This enhances the versatility of AirPods Max, making them suitable for various audio needs.
AirPods Max users can create and mix in Personalized Spatial Audio while using Logic Pro for Mac. To set up a personal profile for Spatial Audio, an iPhone equipped with a TrueDepth camera is required. This profile will sync across all Apple devices running the latest operating systems, including iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and tvOS.
