On Thursday, Sloclap, the developer known for its hit game Sifu, launched its highly anticipated soccer title, Rematch. This arcade-style soccer game promises a thrilling online, team-based experience. However, the game has debuted without the much-expected crossplay feature, which limits players to competing only within their respective platforms.
As an online multiplayer game, Rematch naturally raises expectations for crossplay, allowing players to team up with friends across different gaming platforms. Unfortunately, this functionality will not be available at launch. During previous beta tests, the development team communicated via the Rematch Discord server that they were working hard to implement crossplay ahead of the game's release. However, unforeseen technical challenges have delayed the feature, prompting an apology from Sloclap to its early adopters.
In a statement on their official blog, Sloclap acknowledged the disappointment of players eagerly awaiting crossplay from day one. "We understand many of you were looking forward to playing Rematch across platforms from the start. We did our utmost to include crossplay at launch, but this is our studio's first venture into crossplay functionality, and we faced unforeseen technical complexities," they explained. The studio expressed regret for not communicating the delay sooner, recognizing the frustration it caused within the gaming community.
Sloclap assured fans that alongside necessary bug fixes, crossplay remains their highest priority. "We are committed to delivering this feature swiftly, and we will share a more precise timeline as soon as possible," they stated. The developer confirmed that a basic working version of the feature exists but emphasized that they need to implement the relevant interfaces, debug, and polish it before passing console certifications. This process, they noted, requires time, but they are dedicated to moving forward as quickly as possible.
While an official timeline for the crossplay release remains unspecified, Sloclap urges players to keep in mind that developing such features can often be a lengthy process. Rematch is currently available on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
